Following AICN’s debut of the “official design” for Captain America’s movie-look, Collider has the same basic thing for “Thor.” This is slightly less “big” of a deal, since we’ve already more or less seen a set pic, but this is the first full-body look: http://www.collider.com/2010/06/02/thor-chris-hemsworth-new-images-concept-art/
Can I just say how INCREDIBLY glad I am that he’s NOT just wearing the damn black tank-top thing from “Ultimates?” That he has a big, flowing red CAPE? That Mjolnir looks EXACTLY like it’s supposed to? Yeah, I know, capes are silly and impractical; I saw “The Incredibles,” too. Know what else is impractical? Every single solitary thing any superhero has ever been depicted doing. Ever. Practicality doesn’t belong anywhere nearer to the superhero subgenre than it already is.
That said, the image is way over photoshopped, especially since the earlier production still plainly showed more naturalistic fabrics and armor are in the “real” film. But my main concern is that I can immediately look at this and say “Oh, it’s The Mighty Thor.” It definately jibes with everything I’ve heard from people with real access, i.e. that the level of fidelity in this to some of the more “offbeat” elements of Marvel’s Asgard is going to take people by surprise. (I’ve seen at least one thing that, if real, is up there with Spider-Man in terms of literal page to screen translation.) I seriously can’t wait to see this guy standing next to Iron Man and Captain America. And Hulk, hopefully.
This is really happening.
oh man….. hate to say it cause i was really looking forward to the Thor movie and i know this only a mock up…… but this looks really stupid….. (sigh)

This reminds me, I may have to finish The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul. Maybe pick up American Gods. But yeah, I'm fine with this. Doesn't he need a helmet, though? That's the one thing that's missing. I know some people bitched about the pants, but I'm fine with them.

But the helmet! Where's the helmet? It's not truly complete without the helmet!

Again, no wing-related helmet, as with Cap, is a little dissappointed. All the moreso because I can easily see Thor's wing helmet working visually in live-action quite easily, as opposed to Cap's wing ears which I'm sure could work in live-action but which I can't quite envision for myself, if that makes sense. As well, the boots strike me as maybe a bit too “modern”, but that's a quibble. On the whole, I'd say this full-body shot looks as impressive as the leaked photo, which is to say quite good.

Doesn't matter, Thor is still the stupidest super hero ever to be created and the absolute bastardization of norse mythology. Doesn't matter how faithful his costume is, he's still not the real god of thunder, he's just a poser and that's all he'll ever be!

Since when was spiderman a page to screen translation? They took hugeliberties with the story and characters.
But i digress. I like this look ALOT better than I thought I would. i was afraid they'd go with 'dude in armour' and instead we get something more superhero looking. And it fits, with superheroes effectively taking the place in mythology that gods used to. I also like that they did not go with the direct `he`s a norse god so he should dress like a viking` thing. He`s a god, not a dude. He should dress appropriately.
Not sold on the cape. Capes have their place in comics but I feel they look very campy unless done right. Now some kind of cloak…that i would like.
and while I really want marvel to stay as far away from the shrieking, incestuous trainwreck that is the ultimate universe, I did like their hammer better.
