The RoboCop Statue WILL Stand in Detroit!

The world we live in now: If you want something done, make sure it’s something The Internerds will take vaugely-ironic pleasure in. A privately-funded, web-donation-based effort to install a statue of RoboCop in Detroit has exceeded it’s financial target, and they’re going ahead with it.

io9 has an interview with the guys in charge. I know some people aren’t crazy about this – wishing the money had gone to other more useful sources, viewing the whole thing as a silly fit of geek/hipster irony, etc. There’s probably some truth in that… but on the other hand there’s going to be a statue of Robocop in Detroit. Awesome.

On the brighter side, if it DOES manage to attract tourism (especially during, say, the Motor City Comic Con), the city may make more money from said tourism than they would've raised otherwise, and THAT money could go to better purposes.

So it may take a while longer, but I do think Detroit might make more money to go to those more useful sources WITH the statue than without. 😀

Isn't that The Terminator theme? And isn't that shot at the end of the trailer of Robocop walking away from the flames very similar to a shot at the end of The Terminator? Weird.

Yeah either “Dead or alive, you're coming with me” or “Prime directive: Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, uphold the law.” either of those will do fine.

Well im from Denmark.. Up and untill this point, Detroit dident really exist to me (Well besides beeing RoboCop's “scene”).. I know it is a bit geeky, but the awesomeness outweigh it by a gazillion times.. I compare it to Greece erecting a statue of Achillies or some other charactor with it's roots in fiction. All out awesome, and it kinda put's Detroit on the map for me, in a very cool way. I dont know if there is anything similar in Hollywood.. If not, there should be!

I'm sure that's the theme tune to Terminator 2 which came out in 1991.
    Robocop came out in 1987.

The version of that tune (By Brad Fiedel) used in the original Terminator movie was less industrial and more electronic.

Looks like he did a remix for the Robo trailer that was then used in T2.

    What's up with that?
