KY Intense brand sexual-lubricant – currently locked in a bitter battle with Cialis/Viagra/etc. over who can make the most hillariously wink-wink-y commercial hawking their products without being able to say upfront what it actually DOES – has been running a campaign for a few years now on the same basic formula: An adorably-everyday couple quirkily talk up the product, cut to goofy visual-pun for orgasm, cut back to messed-up bedsheets. Ho ho.
Well, now the campaign is branching out; with a new installment that features – *gasp!* – a female/female pair. You’re shocked, I can tell. Have a look at what the “family-values” asshole in your life will be railing about this week after the jump:

I think it's an awesome start and will no doubt receive its fair share of controversy but can't help think it would get WAAAAY more controversy coverage if it was 2 dudes instead of 2 ladies.

patrick.b.healy has it right. KY's product isn't something the “family values asshole” endorses in the first place, no real harm done. However, I can just picture it – 'I believe lubricated sex should only be between a man and a woman! I didn't realize the “civil unions” I support are gateways to such horrendous acts of sin!'

Especillay given that a sexually active gay male couple is FAR more likely to need lube on hand than lesbians who
1)Being women, have a pretty decent chance of being self lubing
2-Have major erogenous zones on the OUTSIDE, requiring no penetrative intercourse
3)have a staggeringly wide variety of options for non penetrative intercourse
And like others, I'd be FAR more impressed if it was a male/male pairing.
Showing lesbians doesn't exactly defy the homophobic set. There are plenty of bigoted nut jobs who are just fine with sexual activity they can get off to.

Yea, I don't see how anyone who would be offended by there being a lesbian pairing in the commercial wouldn't be all the more offended by the entire premise of the commercial. I think KY is pretty safe in the assumption that their consumer base probably won't be phased much by this and that anyone who gets upset about it probably didn't buy their products in the first place.

While I get where others are coming from in saying that a man/man ad would probably be a lot more controversial, I still think that the idea of this airing on TV in the same place I've seen other KY ads in my day-to-day watching is nonetheless a remarkable step forward. No fanfare, no “LOOK AT THESE TWO LESBIANS OMG”…just two girls who sleep together, as if that were a perfectly normal part of everyday life (which, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you, it absolutely is). Especially if this winds up airing on any of the channels and times I've seen other KY ads for, I'd say it's a pretty huge deal, because that sort of accepting attitude (not just “tolerant”, either, but “accepting”) toward LBGT sexualities is exceptionally rare in our mainstream media.

I agree with O.T and Sssonic. I don't see this being controversial in the media (probably because they aren't doing two guys (yet)) but i think it's a great thing to be doing! It's helping homosexuality slide easily into different areas of society (commercialism mainly, I suppose) as if it were lubricated…..;)

This isn't as big of a deal as everybody's making it out to be.
You need to keep in mind that a network still needs to approve the commercial before they will let it on the air.
Manufacturers have been making “gay-versions” of commercials for a long time (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD5k98oDYXs), but they're mostly confined to being aired on the gay channels, or at 3am.
I'd be a lot more surprised if this showed up on a major network.
