Fun experiment, though I think the character might have been better served if in the ending Maguire declined to sign up, offering instead a younger alternative who for reasons not explained in the post-credits sequence, is growing into the same power that Maguire himself has (had? perhaps he’s weakening). That way we get the same continuity you crave, while keep the teen angst that Maguire, now in his 40s, can no longer deliver.
