OverThinker returns…

Hey! New episode, at last…

So… did anything ELSE of major historical significance that many of us probably never thought we’d see in our lifetimes happen tonight? 😉

Hey Bob, I’m in deep despair and agony over the elections. I need to take my mind off stuff, so I’m taking my girls to the movies tomorrow. They’re going to see High School Musical and I’m free to see a movie of my choice. I’m thinking of Changeling. This is my only chance to get to a movie in the forseeable future, so don’t want to waste it on something I’ll regret. What do you think? Changeling or something else. I usually agree with you 99.9% Thanks.

First things first: Try to cheer up. At the end of the day, all “we” really did was hire a new guy to be the fellow we blame when stuff doesn’t work and vote on some laws that can usually be voted out in similar fashion. If it didn’t go your way, remember that you get to try again real soon.I don’t know that I’d call “Changeling” a movie built to put one in a better mood – it’s pretty dark. But it IS a really, really good movie and on that level I found it pretty nourishing. So, if you’re of the disposition that watching a well-made, smart movie can make you feel good even if it’s not a “happy” story I’d reccomend it.I would caution, though, to NOT go in expecting it to be how they’re advertising it, i.e. a “high-class” version of a Lifetime weepie about swapped kids. The actual film is more of a sprawling, multi-story crime/corruption saga with Jolie’s character as the “human-story” anchor point. Think less “Losing Isahia” and more “L.A. Confidential.” (One other thing, if it makes a difference on your plans at all: It’s going to be a lot LONGER than High School Musical, if you guys are trying to coordinate.)

Thanks for the info. We have a way to make the time difference work…Ice cream parlor next to movie theater! I would rather see a really good movie than something so-so but light hearted. In fact, I usually enjoy dark movies. And I like Clint Eastwood’s movies. Thanks, this has been very helpful. (and I did expect Losing Isaiah, but I think this will offer a bit more.) So, off to the movies! And congrats for the bit on “the Escapist Show!” Good job.
