It’s somewhat comforting to know that classic-scifi archivist and B-movie maven Fred Olen Ray – who was doing schlock-for-schlock’s-sake when The Asylum and Syfy’s guys were in diapers – is still doing his thing. io9 brings to my attention and yours his latest opus: “Super Shark;” the epic tale of a giant shark that can hop around on dry land when it needs to… and the four-legged walking tank dispatched to fight it.
Seriously now, how great is that mecha-tank thing? It literally looks like their storyboard session was watching a four year-old smash his Shark and Robot bath-toys together. Glorious.
I love how the tank is a modified Sherman tank… Nothing says prototype like a 70 year old chassis. =P

Bwahahaahahahah! This looks epically horrible. Gotta love that B-movie logic:
“Alright, so we've got a giant killer shark, how are the good guys going to fight it?”
“A tank?”
“Don't be stupid, this shark can take out fighter jets and oil rigs, one tank would be useless.”
“Oh yeah. Hmm. Tank with legs?”
“YES.”
I dunno if a full 90 minutes of it would work though… o_O;

Yeeeeaaaaah, I don't know. I mean, sure it's B-movie classic, but The Spoony Experiment and Angry Video Game Nerd have better production values than that. I mean, there's so bad it's awesome and then there's this bad AND badly budgeted.

I won't ever be happy until A Raptor flying a jet takes on a T-Rex piloting a tank.

That was terrible and you should feel terrible.
But seriously, these B-movies aren't really my thing but I'm trying to wrap my head around the appeal. I can sort of see not enjoying the movie itself, but getting a kick out of the exasperated reactions of the people you watch it with. Is it something like that? Not making any judgements here, just curious!

Two things:
1. I… I'm NOT the only one who feels like making a tank SLOWER by giving it legs is a poor idea, right? It's not just me?
2. The Asylum needs to do the film adaptation of Axe Cop. They're the only studio that can do it justice.

Offtopic, but if any of you have watched the classic series of “Doctor Who”, you'll be saddened by this news. Nicholas Courtney, who played Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart died yesterday evening. I may not have seen many episodes with him in it, but I know what a vital character he was to the Who mythos. RIP Brig. π¦
