I think you may be reading a little too much into this trailer to be honest.
I think it's just good to see Edward, eh, I mean Robert Pattinson doing something different.
Who knows, he may actually end up being a good actor after all.

    Looks ok though IMO.

    Robert Pattinson? Gonna steer clear…
Oooh! The guy from Inglourious Basters, sign me up!!

    Having said that:
It's either going to be a bad movie or this is a bad trailer, because Christoph Waltz seems completely uninterresting. So like Akkuma said, don't make up your mind just yet.

Taking it to be a “Titanic” might be a little to much, but from what we've seem, it doesn't look much more than a standart romantic movie set into the early 20's or something.

Still, even if it's a Titanic with a Circus, is that much of a problem? Titanic is not a bad movie, the story is cliched as hell, but to see the ship's replica is prety awesome and some of the characters are likeable, like Rose.

About Pattinson, yeah I guess he went the “Straight good man” into this one. It's not bad, but he'll get a lot of shit because of it, just like Dicaprio did ins his teen magazine days.

This film just looks uninteresting, and they naturally justify an affair by making the husband look like an asshole.

While I didn't find the film “Conversations with Other Women” to be a favorite, I at least appreciated that there was a sense of “we just did something wrong” in the affair scenario, even though the emotions are confused. If you're going to do a story about an affair, at least make the internal conflict more interesting than “Oh, she's married, but he is an asshole so…”

Then again, it wouldn't be as much Oscar Bait then, would it?

You do realize they don't release O-bait this early in the year, right? They usually wait until late fall and reserve the first four months of the year to films they have no idea how to market.

Which is probably what this is. A film for everyone's mom.

(mom's are rarely a good marketing demo. they have too much to do)

It's actually a ver apt description. I read and actually quite enjoyed the book. It's well written and has enough originality in how it's presented to make it a compelling read. And I was quite looking forward to the movie. But the casting of a complete hack in the central role is more than enough to kill the whole thing. Sad face.:(
