Good gravy, how AWESOME is the first leg of this trailer? Sombre, epic, powerful… a million times better than anyone could’ve reasonably hoped a “Green Lantern” movie might look. Cosmic, epic in scope, the stuff of fanboy wish-dream made real… until 1:25, when Ryan Reynolds turns up and the whole ‘groove’ just completely disintegrates.
How did this happen? He’s a good actor. It seemed like good casting. But ALL of the scenes here featuring the TITLE CHARACTER just look and sound so awkward. Even setting aside that the outfit still looks ridiculous on him (it looks good on all the others) and that the CGI-skinsuit concept doesn’t fit and his mostly live-action head floating around makes the otherwise excellent CG look bad – the performance just doesn’t seem to be there.
Granted, it could just be that every trailer has “messed up” his performance in exactly the same way… but it’s looking more and more like a miscast (misdirected?) lead actor could end up torpedoing what would otherwise look like a truly remarkable feature.
MOVIEBOB CENTRAL 
simple. He's playing Hal Jordan, the most banal of all the Green Lanterns of Earth, whose only interesting attributes are his origin and eventual downfall and return.

You know who should have been cast as the Green Lantern? Isaiah Mustafa! Come on people, you KNOW he would be perfect. Not to mention his popularity is booming right now.

I agree that Reynolds seems very awkward in all of his shots, but I don't think he's necessarily a miscast on the larger scale. I'm in the minority here, but I didn't think Bale made a great Bruce Wayne, but I got over it and still liked him as a good character overall.
As for the skinsuit, I don't mind it for the most part, but the fucking feet just kill any seriousness it had. The mask certainly doesn't help.
I think we should also point out that despite 3 trailers, there hasn't been a lot of Carol, which worries me big time. Her debut showed a lot of negative reaction, and I'm worried that avoiding on showing her means something.
What irks me about the film the most though is that they aren't going with Hal's origin of his dad dying in a crash. I personally think that scene alone would've made a GREAT opening for a trailer.

The addition of Parallax in this film further reinforces my belief that Ryan Reynolds will be the Green Lantern for all of 1 movie.
After that we'll either see Guy Gardner or John Stewart. Both are supposed to be in the film. I'm hoping for Stewart… but maybe we'll see both.
How awesome would it be for them to turn Hal Jordan/Ryan Reynolds evil, bring in the other Lanterns and then rehabilitate Hal?

I think Reynolds brings a smallishness, a humility to contrast the EPIC COSMIC thing. He's only one man. We've all felt that way. He's afraid, and he must rise to the challenge.
I'm still very excited for this movie. You're not going to talk me out of it.

I agree the CG seems a bit all over the place. The cg mask especially.
But I like, and think is something to be said about having Hal stand in stark contrast to the rest of the Corps (and therefore the entire opening of the trailer as such). He doesn't get it, and he doesn't simply respect the Guardians or other Lanterns because he should. Thats part of Hal Jordan, he openly disobeys orders, and breaks the mold.
Also Kilowog looks awesome as he should.

Parallax being in there as the “ancient enemy” of The Guardians is more-or-less “comic canon” ever since Geoff Johns used it to retcon Hal's genocidal actions (i.e. “it's not his fault, he was possessed by a demon the Corps has always been fighting but have just never mentioned up until right now.)
I severely doubt they'll have Reynolds become “Bad Hal” even WITH Parallax in the mix, since they're already setting up Carol Ferris for her “good guy goes bad” story – if you look quick in the first trailers, you can see that her flight-helmet has a Star Sapphire insignia on it.

HOLY SHIT!!! Isaiah Mustafa would be a fucking perfect John Stewart. I would see that day one. The only problem is that Isaiah Mustafa and John Stewart are black and Hollywood doesn't think black characters/actors are bankable.

God, I'd love to see evil Hal in movie 2. Truth be told, however, this one will probably see the Evil of Evils destroyed or imprisoned, never to be seen again.

Yes, Isaiah Mustafa would be the perfect Green Lantern. Unfortunatly, hollywood isn't interested in giving s what we want. That's why we still don't have the perfect live action Batman (i.e. a live action version of TAS).

Well, their calling him Hal Jordon but Hal was a man without fear (if my memory is correct).
However, in this film, Ryan has stated many times that Hal is not fearless but that courage to overcome fear is stronger then fearlessness.
So, a Lantern that is afraid, doesn't think he belongs, and has to overcome his fear as a plot point is pure Kyle Rayner.
Honestly, this is Kyle Rayner dressing up as Hal. That doesn't excuse everything but I believe these trailers would be better if Ryan Reynolds was being called Kyle Rayner.

God, I dearly hope not 'Bob. No mainstream cinema studio would even entertain her story arcs without DEEP, jarring narrative changes (for obvious reasons). The end result would probably end up resembling something of an unholy, intolerable mashup between Spiderman 3 and Bitch Slap…

Sounds like Moviebob is having a “NO Giant Squid” moment for this movie. Sorry to say, but the movie will probably be about as good as you think and you'll have to take the advice of many when it came to Watchmen “This is about as good as you're going to get. Might as well enjoy it.”
The movie might just be drawing attention to the uncomfortable fact that Hal Jordan is, essentially, a highly uninteresting character to begin with. Didn't it take him getting paired with the infinitely more interesting Green Arrow to really make him stand out?

First Class will be disappointing. It looks like “Glee” with mutants. And, what's up with this ridiculous retconning? Mystique, on the side of good? Banshee, a kid? Havok before Cyclops? No. No. No.
Then again, I don't see this playing into any big Marvel movie continuity. I get the feeling that Marvel didn't finance this crap. If they did, why did they let it get green-lit?

I wouldn't say Carol is gonna become Star Sapphire or not. It looks like they're pushing for Sinestro to be bad (for obvious reasons). Plus, I believe said Campbell said he didn't want a whole colors war thing, but NOW he isn't working on the sequels if they happen at all. Maybe the insignia is just a nod to us comic fans.

@CraftyAndy: The biggest problem that I have with Ryan Reynolds as Hal is that it's just not a good fit. It's like casting Robin Williams for Batman. Ryan Reynolds as Kyle Rayner works, maybe even Guy Gardner, but for Hal you want someone who just looks more sure of himself. My dream pick would be Nathan Fillion, but that's just me. Over all, I'm optimistic, but probably just because Green Lantern is about the only DC superhero I really like
