I too understand the idea of a good joke but that was kinda tasteless. And I don't mean in the whole it's morally wrong to place women on a lower standard king of thing but more of thing where it seems like this commercial is more geared towards the unruly douche bag kind of guys.

    This commercial is sexist.
    It's sexist against men.

“Action flicks and explosions!!! No girls allowed!!! That's all you guys really like isn't it? Sure you do”

Women say that media idealizes them as subservient bimbos? People accept it as a legitimate complaint.

Men said that media idealizes them as emotionless eternal-manchild douchebags? “Shut up, if you don't like this shit you're not a real man anyway”

    Double standard much?

This branding just doesn't make sense. I mean, the similar Slim Jim commercials are a bit annoying but at least there is some logical connection between meat stick and manliness. But low calorie soda? Hell you might as well try to advertise the Duke Nukem Brand of Defoliants for Gentle Skin.

@biomechanical923 Took the words right outta my mouth, man. As the philosopher Carlin once said, “Let's not have a double standard here. One standard will do just fine, thank you very much.”

The only thing missing from both this commercial and the recent really annoying “spicy slim jim” commercials is have them finish off my them saying:

    BE THE MAN!
    BE THE DOUCHEBAG!

Big deal, Bob. Over here in the UK we have a chocolate bar called Yorkie whose entire ad campaign for about 15 years has been “It's not for girls”, and the wrapper even have an outline of a woman with a cross through it.

If anyone did this in Sweden 1000 government funded think tanks would publicly rip their balls off. It's fun to observe subtle cultural differences; thank you internet 🙂

I see another Brit has beaten me to pointing out the Yorkie bar campaign, I mean they even did a special pink bar with the slogan “This one's for girls”

Far as I remember nobody was bothered by it because everyone got that it was a joke. Some of the ads of women trying ever more elaborate schemes and disguises to try and buy them were actually half way amusing.

So yeah, don't really see the big deal/fuss.

It's like Hal Sparks said in Charmaggeddon: Everything is merit-based. You don't get any points one one way r another for being a man or a woman. Everyone is capable of the full spectrum of human emotions and abilities.

Somewhere there is a woman holding a baby and mowing motherfuckers down with a machine gun and a steely Mama Bear gaze. Somewhere else a man with a rolled-up newspaper in a bathroom has been trying to kill a spider for like a half-hour.

Not only do we in Britain have the Yorkie that is “not for girls” and the “this one's for girls” limited edition but the girl's one was (I seem to remember) made of white chocolate that had been dyed pink.

They also did one which was only put in military ration packs that had the slogan “Not for civvies” on it.

They've missed the self deprecating humour that the Yorkie adverts managed though.

Here's a product being aimed at women as a counterpoint.

    Amen, brother.
If I take a swing at a spider and I miss, I need to leave the room for a little while. I know he's hiding somewhere waiting for the chance to counter-attack.

I'm more annoyed that they stole this from Yorkie bars but they had more of a reason for that slogan as the chocolate bars were like steel so puny wimmens obviously couldn't eat them.

Stop being such a pussy BOB! Why can't men be proud of being men! Women have been treated equally for decades now, so stop getting your panties in a bunch!

This Feminist talk won't get you laid. Im sick of these Vaginas posing as men that are ashamed of being men!

Yorkie's been tooting that horn for years on our side of the Atlantic. “Yorkie: it's not for girls” Wasn't so vitriolicalyy misogynistic as this though, just casually so.

“Why can't men be proud of being men!”

The only requisite for being considered a man is possession of a Y-chromosome.

Taking pride in something you're born with, without a choice, is just as bad as taking pride in your race or nationality.

Deary me… If comercials were made by Michael Bay. It's right here…

Still I find it funny how they're “TRYING” to promote what's pretty much a diet soda to a masculine audience, when for a long time it's been pretty much advertised towards women.

But yes, terrible commercial, and why I wouldn't dare to turn on the TV any more!

    LONG LIVE THE INTERNET! 😛
