Forget the whole Johnny Depp angle. What *I* wonder is if people under 30 will believe me when I tell them that the TV show that “21 Jump Street” is based on – complete with the automatically-hysterical premise of young(ish)-looking adult police officers going undercover as High School students to bust teenaged drug dealers – was actually meant to be taken seriously…

Well, I just had the pleasure of watching Harry Brown on Netflix… a movie about an old man getting back at a terrifying neighborhood of violent abusive delinquents.
Then I get to see this trailer… the world is going to shit faster than I ever thought possible.

Dear God. Way to miss the feeling of the original TV series by a light year. If they had made this a drama, played it straight and built in some tension it might have worked. But the comedy/buddy cop route is done to death.
And Channing Tatum has the acting range of a grey painted brick.

Meh, looks like a decent enough lowbrow comedy to me. But this is seriously the first time I've heard of 21 Jump Street, and if it wasn't for this blog I'd have watched that without ever knowing it was based on anything.

Sad part is:
I wasn't sure who was supposed to be Michael DeLuise in this film. Now I know. Neither of them.
Sadder part:
I remember 21 Jump Street and I enjoyed it. Now, Jonah Hill, in all his Allen Gregory-infused glory (btw, that show isn't funny, either), has produced this abomination.
Bet you dollars to donuts they do this with a New York Undercover remake, starring….wait for it….Terry Crews and John Leguizamo….being hilariously funny and making jokes about “White Chicks” and “To Wong Foo”.
Disgraceful!
All I know is: they better leave the projected “Boy Meets World” film alone. LOL.

Christ, what's next? Moonlighting movie? Mork and Mindy?
Eh, just say fuck it and make a Spaced movie. Then maybe people will go watch the original show.

The only thing I clearly remember about 21 Jump Street was the theme song. With that said Good GOD does this movie look horrible. I'm not even sure why they named it 21 jump street. It just looks like a knock off of a judd Apatow film.
You know a movie is bad when even Ice Cube is clearly phoning in his performance.

Yeah, he'd still have had a problem with it, because he can be a bit of a snob, and this comedy is the archetype of lowbrow.
I don't expect it'll change my life or anything, but I bet I'll enjoy it if I watch it.

Yeah, 21 Jump Street is being handled just right by this movie: an impossible-to-take-seriously, unintentionally funny and farfetched premise (young-looking narcs busting teen drug dealers in high school) is treated as fodder for a comedy.
I like the idea of casting Channing Tatum because the joke is he's obviously so big and intimidating there's no way anyone would reasonably consider him to be a high schooler. It's like if they did a Batman and Robin that was nothing but gay jokes just so we can all get them out of our system.
Incidentally, I think I saw Holly Robinson Peete in the one scene with the car! Best known as the daughter of the original Gordon from Sesame Street.

Oh, yay, another comedy that mistakes swearing for comedy.
Don't get me wrong, I swear like a f******g ****er all the f*****g time but a lot of recent American comedies rely WAY too heavily on it.
How about instead of having a character swear unexpectedly, you write a joke instead?

While the film struggles at the start as Tatum and Hill share little chemistry, they improve minute by minute and are one of the shining lights by the end, their journey boasting a surprising emotional pull.

Channing Tatum is really funny in this film. Jonah Hill and Ice Cube also deliver some really good liners as well. Although a remake, the film is original in its execution of the conventional screenplay. I highly recommend this film. And I have to say that if you choose to see this movie, you will be greeted with a really nice surprise near the end.

So this isn't actually a movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street? It's just some comedy that happens to have the same program as the show? I think they should have gone with a different title so they don't confuse a whole lot of people.
