Below, the trailer for “Gyakuten Saiban” – known to Western gamers as “Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney” – directed by the legendary Takeshi Miike…
I’ve said it for years: Adapt the games that have their own wholly unique aesthetic and put it in the hands of filmmakers who “get it.” If I’m to be proven right, all the better that it be by Miike.
Sorry but Mario Brothers beat it to it. š

I've never played a Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney game. I have no clue what they were saying and yet That trailer looked Awesome! Not only does it make me want to watch the movie but also play the game.

It figures they'd get it right. If Hollywood got a hold of this, they'd botch it for sure.

GAH! I hate seeing the camera on the opposite side of Pheonix. Seriously, though, totally awesome and deserving of an english dub. It looks like the movie is gonna cover some of the cases in the first game–including Edgeworth's trial. Epic.

is it customary in Asian cinema to shout every other line?

I'm usually leery of video game adaptations no matter what country they come from. But it's Takashi Miike, and he does good work. So, for now, I have no… objection.

@Fett101 Apparently you haven't watched much Moviebob, because if you had, you'd know he HATES that movie.
@Link3680 Of course they look weird, they're trying to accurately recreate the anime hairstyles of the game characters. Miike always loves to do weird crap like that.
@Unknown the game involves a lot of shouting. It's just part of the adaptation. Plus, it's a trailer. It has to show the high-tension parts to garner interest.
I personally can't wait for this. Miike is so awesome!

I think I just had a nerdgasm.
From the looks of it, they're taking the story of the first game, and having at least two of the cases in there. Considering it's a movie I'm wondering how they can fit it all… I'm assuming it will mostly revolve around the last case, and the second one will be use to set up the characters, story, and rivalry between Edgeworth and Wright…
I can't wait to see what they do with it. I'm pretty excited š
