So… Tim Burton’s take on “Dark Shadows” boils down to “It’s Beetlejuice, but he’s the good guy?” Y’know what? I’m on board. I’m digging the whole “my pet vampire-grandpa” thing. This could work…

As a Tim Burton fan, I think the trailer is underwhelming but I bet it could still be cool.

I think the choice for the setting of the film is genuinely inspired, and certainly not what you'd expect from a movie with a title like Dark Shadows

If they had called it anything other than Dark Shadows I would not have minded and possibly would have thought this was cute. But as a “remake” of the show, which I enjoyed (the second version in the 80's), I have to ask WHY.
This worked beautifully as a dark soap opera. Now all I can think of is Addams Family with Raul Julia.

I could really work this as well, I'm a huge fan of Beetlejuice and this looks like a take on that but with Vampires as you said.
But want to know what I really like, it looks like Burton really has gotten over Alice and Wonderland and is starting to create some good stuff. I loved the Frankenweenie trailer and this was really good as well. I hope both movies dont turn out to be disappointments.

I must be psychic, because when they revealed it was 1972, I paused, and said “There's going to be a hi-larious scene where he looks at the television and thinks that there's a tiny person stuck inside.”
And then lo and behold there it was.
Okay, the whole “Fish out of Temporal Water” thing is, no question, a dead horse trope, and that joke in particular is a horse that's been killed, resurrected, rekilled and tac-nuked from high orbit.
That said, the movie could be good, but I feel like the trailer is playing to the most average parts and if its good it'll have to be because marketing chose not to reveal the most obscure and esoterically clever bits.

This was a painful trailer to watch. The actual movie might be better, but I have no idea why trailers these days need to pick the stupidest most UNFUNNY scenes in the movie to sell themselves. Uch.
The 70s thing was the only even remotely interesting part.

*adjusts expectations* Alright, I'm on board. Tim Burton still has a lot of goodwill with me (even from the last 10 years. Yeah we've got Charlie and Alice and Apes, but we've also got Sweeney, Corpse Bride and Big Fish). So you know what, I'll give this a shot. Plus it has a good color scheme (none of this Wonka/Alice crap).
What I want to know is how it took this long for this to start getting advertisements. It's got Burton and Depp (who, lat time they came together, made a BILLION FUCKING DOLLARS) and it's release date is less than 2 months away. Why is this it's first trailer? Did they make it ABSURDLY quickly?

This is the first time in a very long time that any trailer… made me smile.
I erh.. actually genuinely think the looks fun, I wanna watch this movie.
Good thing about Jonnhy depp, he doesn't shy away from “hideous.” make-up jobs, he'll just go for it.
All though there's no hiding that he is still just pretty damn hot

Johnny Depp is a good actor and though he's in another Burton movie, I certainly look forward to it. We can't prematurely make any judgements but regardless, it's a movie I'll certainly watch.

Personally, I think it just looks awful. The first part of the trailer looks like it could have been setting up for a stylish, violent, supernatural revenge story. Instead, what do we get? WACKY SITCOM!!! *jazz hands*
Ugh… When none of the jokes or one-liners in the trailer are funny, it does not bode well for any movie – and it's pretty much a death sentence for anything Tim Burton has his name attached to.
“Hey, look, the man from two-hundred years ago doesn't understand how a television works! I DEMAND YOU LAUGH AT HIS HILARIOUS HIJINKS!”

@Elessar They didn't make this film quickly, according to the tweets from one of the stars of the film, Chloe Moretz, they filmed this close to a year ago. I think this marketing stuff is more due to the fact that this is a very hard pitch to sell in the world of Twilight.
