"Cosmopolis" teased

Below, a teaser for “Cosmopolis,” which should be chiefly regarded as the next big David Cronenberg project but will innevitably be chiefly regarded as the next desperate stab at giving Robert Pattinson a post-“Twilight” career.

Based on a Dom DeLillo novel, it follows a day in the life (and within the tormented psyche) of a rich New York go-getter. And yes, that does appear to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex attacking a Sbarro at 0:26…

I love how the still image for the video shows off Robert Pattinson's belly hair, filling my daily quota of things I really didn't need to see.

Looks like Pattinson is taking the Daniel Radcliffe path. Just like Radcliffe did Equus and appeared nude onstage, Pattinson is trying to do something that's edgy and as far away from a character he's been associated with for the last several years as possible.

That this is also a Cronenberg film has my interest piqued as well. Looks like this might be a return to the style of his older movies. I've seen Naked Lunch and eXistenZ, but somehow for me they were never quite up there with, say, Scanners or Videodrome.

    It's a rat Bob. Sorry.

And having not read the novel, this looks like Cronenberg back in Videodrome style which is…I dunno, that movie was seriously twisted. But it was good. And this could be good though, maybe Pattinson could surprise us? I dunno, I've gotten to the point where I've stopped holding Twilight against anyone involved since Slade did Eclipse (WHY). So, I dunno maybe he'll do alright. I'll see it cuz…you know Cronenburg.

So… a movie based on a Dom DeLillo book. Has that happened before? Forget the pretty boy, I want to see how Cronenburg, or anyone for that matter, translates DiLillo into a visual medium.

I've been waiting years for Cronenberg to go back to making weird awesome movies again. Yeah, “Eastern Promises” was fine, but did it have a giant rat-dinosaur running through the streets of New York? NO!

As for Robert Pattinson? Who cares?

As a film lover and a Canadian it is my duty to see every Chronenberg film. This looks really interesting I'm kind of excited and kind of worried about Chronenberg going back to his older style. If he can make another Videodrome or Scanners than all my worries are for nothing.
I also kinda hope he sticks with some of his less weird stuff if only because I loved Eastern Promises, A history of Violence and A Dangerous method.

As for Pattinson. I saw some glimmers of hope for him in Water for Elephents. The movie sucked, but he almost sold me on his character a couple of times. If anyone can work around (or play up) his omni-present anti-charm it's Chronenberg.

    Also Giant rat.
