"Wreck-It Ralph" Trailers Again

Trailer #2 for “Wreck-It Ralph” gives us a bigger view of the plot and the characters (John C. Reilly seems to be hitting this out of the park voice-wise) and doubles down on the video-game references: Alongside previously-glimpsed Bowser, Zangief, Robotnik and Q*Bert you can now see Dig-Dug, Tapper, Sonic The Hedgehog and what some people are saying is an Arwing are popping up as well:

People are saying they saw Yoshi in there, too, but I’m not seeing him. Even setting aside the cameos, there’s just SO MUCH potential in this premise. And Jane Lynch looks inspired as the Samus/Master Chief hybrid.

So this will be to old games what Shrek was to fairytales… Meh. We already had Scott Pilgrim two years ago, thanks.

What is the target audience for this? The jokes and the stylization suggest 8 years olds. The actual content – the geeks who played games on 8 bits PCs. So how exactly this will work?

    Btw, really (unintentionally) bad animation.

I know right? No way 8-year-olds can enjoy a movie unless they UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE REFERENCES. And what kind of self-respecting geek watches CARTOONS? Man, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

    /sarcasm

Seriously though, while I can understand the comparison to “Shrek”, to me they feel like two different approaches to a similar concept. They are both about bad guys going on journeys of self-discovery, but while Shrek has come to terms with how people think of him as a bad guy and wants to be left alone, Ralph hates being a bad guy and wants to be embraced by society. While “Shrek” was about learning to accept who you really are and letting other people in, “Ralph” seems to be about reconciling the way society views you with the way you view yourself or the way you would like to be viewed.

Also, uh, what bad animation? It all looks fine to me.

Did they HAVE to get back Urkel for Sonic (if they did..I dunno if he is speaking there, it doesn't sound like him)?

Also, it'd be funny to see what the tie-in game for this movie would be!

Actually, Urkel (Jaleel White) isn't the “official” voice of Sonic anymore. He was the voice in the English language cartoon shows and he'll be reprising the role in that fan film that's coming out, but the current “official” voice of Sonic is Roger Craig Smith, who is supposedly credited as doing the voice in “Wreck-It Ralph”.

Personally, while I get a kick out of the character cameos, they aren't really what makes this movie interesting to me. I really hope they don't put in TOO much referential humor.

I'm liking the little quirk where the townspeople from Ralph's game have fewer frames of animation than everywhere else because they're 8-bit.

Hmm, I really had a bad feeling when I saw the first trailer, but now I'm not sure. This feels so much better somehow, I wish I knew why. I'm definably watching this one, and with watch I mean pirate of course.
