yeah this does look better, like less “oh hey remember when white people freed black people? gah we're awesome” and more “remember when the president was a bad ass and threw his weight around? Hell Yeah!”

That cynical, gloomy looking emitting from Barry's face for most of the debate–in contrast with Mittens' intensely radient and lovely smile so bright and youthful that it damn near hurt–has in my estimation hit millions of Americans with the revalation that the stereotypical evil, misogynistic, old and stupid Republican might not be as true as they thought. That chirpy smile had to have at very least penetrated the subconsciousess of even the deepest Obama supporters.

“Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern States that by the accession of a Republican Administration their property and their peace and personal security are to be endangered.”

From Lincoln's first inaugural address. Sound's like the southerners had pegged him for a socialist. 😉

@Huntaur He simply wouldn't be a republican. Democrat more likely then not but even then the politics of 1850-65 don't match up neatly to be compared to now.

Yes, the bold Republican party, thanklessly putting liberal interests and the common man ahead of wealthy landowners and small-minded bigotry.

And legend has it that if you stand by Lincoln's grave and say those hallowed words, “Republican Party”, you can hear the faint thudding of him spinning like a top.
