Ode To Joy

Bruce Willis generally puts out at least one big, servicable action movie wherein he plays Bruce Willis: Unflappable Actio Hero of a Certain Age amid whatever pyrotechnic scenario the filmmakers have opted to place him in. Sometimes, they decide to call his character John McClane so it can qualify as a “Die Hard” sequel (both “Hostage” and “Tears of The Sun” were at one point supposed to be “Die Hards,” for example.) Here’s another one:

Eh, look okay. The thing you can’t deny is that Willis is just GOOD at this schtick: Stunt/weary “seriously?” face/quip. It works. The “007” line is cute, but apparently it’s in reference to McClane’s grownup son who’s some kind of spy/soldier/agent in this, likely setting up a “cute” modern gov-trained operator versus oldschool cop dynamic.

Gee thats nice of you to place a spoiler alert AFTER the spoiler.

    Anyway, regarding Die Hard;

This summer I had the fortune to attend a small screening of the original Die Hard with producer Joel Silver. We saw the movie and he delivered a QA afterwards. I had never fully watched the film before the screening and I was honestly stunned by how tight and well put together it is. It really is an amazing film and with Silvers comments on the film afterwards regarding the process of filming and what they were trying to accomplish it really became something more then just an action film, at least for me.

So, I guess thats why Die Hard 5 is a little disappointing, its just an action film. It isn't Die Hard.

Gosh, booth babes were sexually assaulted by some black youtube blogger very recently. There has now been a storm of denial comments to the person that wrote an article condemning his behavior. Look on the escapist forum and eurogamer news for more details.

Hmm… this looks more disappointing then the trailers for Total Recall did for me. I probably will pass until it airs on cable.

bob, been reading your anti-libertarian bullshit on Twitter. Again I must ask – why do you keep supporting a corrupt two party status quo? And why do you act like anyone who thinks differently from you in any way is an inferior being?

Wow that first poster is just a monumental jackass. What a total moron.

Remove that comment Bob or he'll just ruin a movie for even more people.

This is why the internet fucking sucks.

    It was his sled.

He was dead the whole time.

It was probably still a dream.

    Kevin Spacey is Keyser Soze.

He was actually a mental patient in the asylum.

    The villain was Madonna.

The guest star was Bill Murray.

NOW you can call me a jackass.

You are officially a jackass, but at least in that last one you didn't say which movies so that's a slight improvement.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to action movies Bruce Willis is Roger Murtaugh, i.e. he's too old for this shit. If this new installment doesn't have an R rating, it's a safe bet that it won't be worth watching.

I recall reading somewhere that Die Hard originally started out life as a sequel to Commando, but Schwarzenegger wasn't interested so the story was re-written.

If I've managed to get at least one person to imagine what “yippie kie yay, motherfucker” would sound like coming from Arnold Schwarzenegger, I consider this post a success :-Þ
