Hey Bob – did you ever do a review of the Luke Cage Netflix show? I know you did one for Iron Fist, and I remember there was a Daredevil season 2 review of sorts, but I can’t recall you ever say much about Luke Cage itself, when it first aired.
I like the video, but I wonder if it overlooks one pretty crucial piece of the Luke Cage puzzle–Brian Bendis. It was Bendis who brought him in on Alias after a decade and a half of not seeing Cage much, and Bendis again who brought Cage in as a core member (and eventual leader) on New Avengers in 2006. Don’t get me wrong, the man has his flaws as a writer, but his passion and dedication to the character really does speaks for itself and is (I think) the main force behind Cage’s renewed reputation in the millennium.
If new characters can get that kind of vision behind them–the way Kamala Khan does–I’m not worried at all. Every main hero having a diversity version of themselves does seem a bit cheezy though. Hopefully Miles Morales, Riri Williams, Amadeus Cho, etc., can get a writers behind them with a vision for unique stories that keep them interesting in their own right!
